Spokesperson: Putin approves new food security doctrine

MOSCOW, Dec 27 (PRIME) -- President Vladimir Putin has approved Russia’s new food security doctrine submitted by Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Gordeyev, a Gordeyev spokesperson told reporters on Friday.

“Today a new edition of one of the main strategic national security documents was considered during a meeting of the Security Council of the Russian Federation – the food security doctrine …Following the discussion, it was approved by President of Russia Vladimir Putin,” the spokesperson said.

The document says that Russia should produce at least 90% of its vegetables and melon plants, at least 60% of fruits and berries, and at least 75% of seeds.

“The diet of each healthy man regardless of his social and income level should be balanced, healthy, and accessible. Moreover, Russia has to form a state reserve of agricultural products, raw materials and food in accordance with the new document in case of emergency like bad weather or bad harvest,” Gordeyev said as quoted by the spokesperson.
